Climbing Carabiners

Climbing Carabiners

Climbing Carabiners — Manufacturer & Wholesale Supplier

Climbing carabiners engineered to EN 12275 and UIAA 121 form the load-bearing backbone of every roped system, and sourcing them requires more than a datasheet — it requires a manufacturer that controls forging, heat treatment, and destructive testing in-house. With over 15 years producing certified climbing hardware and exports to 40+ countries including Germany, France, the USA, Japan, and Australia, our factory supplies climbing brands, PPE distributors, industrial safety wholesalers, and rescue procurement teams worldwide.

On this page you will find our full range of screwgate, twist-lock, triple-action, wire-gate, and HMS pear-shape carabiners in hot-forged 7075-T6 aluminum and AISI 316 stainless steel. Each SKU includes full traceability, CE EN 12275 + UIAA certification, batch-level 3.1 material certificates, and OEM options for laser-engraved logos, custom colors, and private-label packaging. Whether you need 500 pcs for a boutique climbing brand or 100,000 pcs for annual PPE contracts, the specifications, standards, and procurement guidance below will help you build an accurate RFQ.

Climbing Carabiner Specifications & Standards Explained

Climbing carabiners are governed by two overlapping frameworks: EN 12275 (European Norm for mountaineering equipment) and UIAA 121 (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation). Both require minimum strength ratings on three axes — major axis closedminor axis, and major axis gate-open — expressed in kilonewtons (kN).

For industrial and fall-arrest use, buyers should specify EN 362 (personal fall-protection connectors) instead of or alongside EN 12275. Confusing the two is one of the most common procurement errors we see (see next section).

Material notes: 7075-T6 delivers a ~505 MPa tensile strength, roughly 60% higher than 6061-T6, at similar weight — the reason virtually all certified climbing carabiners are 7075. 6061 is only acceptable for accessory (non-load) carabiners, which must be clearly marked “Not for climbing.”

How to Choose the Right Climbing Carabiner — A Procurement Guide

After auditing hundreds of buyer RFQs, we consistently see the following mistakes. Avoiding them will tighten your specification and reduce compliance risk.

6 Common Procurement Mistakes

  1. Confusing EN 12275 with EN 362. A carabiner certified only to EN 12275 is not legally usable as PPE in most EU workplaces. If your end-market is industrial (arborist, tower, wind), specify dual EN 12275 + EN 362 certification.
  2. Ignoring gate-open strength. A 24 kN closed rating means little if gate-open is only 7 kN — most real-world failures occur with an unintentionally open gate. For rescue and industrial work, prioritize ≥9 kN gate-open.
  3. Specifying “aluminum” without alloy grade. Always write 7075-T6 into your PO. “Aluminum alloy” is not a specification.
  4. Overlooking gate cycle life. UIAA does not mandate a cycle test, but reputable manufacturers should demonstrate ≥10,000 cycles with no functional degradation. Ask for the report.
  5. Assuming anodizing is only cosmetic. Hard anodizing (Type III, 25–50 µm) extends salt-spray resistance from ~72 h to 500+ h — critical for coastal, marine, or via-ferrata use.
  6. No batch traceability clause. Insist on EN 10204 3.1 material certificates and laser-etched batch codes so any field failure can be traced to a heat lot within 24 hours.

Decision Criteria Framework

  • Application: Sport climbing → wire-gate or screwgate. Belay → HMS. Via ferrata → auto-locking Type K. Industrial → EN 362 Class B or T.
  • Environment: Coastal/marine → 316 stainless or hard-anodized 7075. Alpine → weight-optimized wire-gate.
  • Locking mechanism: Screwgate (lowest cost, manual) → twist-lock (auto, 2-action) → triple-action (auto, 3-action, industrial-grade).
  • Total landed cost: Include duty, packaging, and QC-failure allowance. A $0.10/pc price gap often disappears after factoring 3rd-party retest costs on unverified suppliers.

Customization & OEM Capability

  • Laser engraving: logo, batch code, kN ratings, model number — no MOQ surcharge above 2,000 pcs.
  • Anodizing colors: 12 standard colors + Pantone matching; two-tone gate/body available.
  • Private-label packaging: blister, header card, hang tag, retail box, multilingual instruction sheet (EU 8-language compliance).
  • Custom shapes: D, offset-D, oval, pear, asymmetric — from your 2D/3D drawing.
  • Typical timeline: 3D file → tooling → sample: 10–14 days. Sample approval → mass production: 35–45 days.
  • Tooling cost: amortized into unit price for orders ≥ 20,000 pcs; itemized quote below that threshold.

Quality Control Process

  1. Incoming material inspection (IQC): every 7075-T6 billet lot verified against 3.1 mill certificate; spectrometer cross-check.
  2. In-process (IPQC): forging dimensional check every 30 min; heat-treatment hardness (HRB 85–90) sampled per furnace batch.
  3. 100% proof-load testing: every carabiner pulled to a proof load (typically 8 kN) before packaging — non-destructive.
  4. Destructive sampling: 3 pcs per 1,000 pulled to failure on 50 kN tensile rig; results recorded in batch file.
  5. Gate-cycle test: 3 pcs per batch cycled 10,000× to verify spring integrity.
  6. Pre-shipment inspection (PSI): AQL 1.0 for critical, 2.5 for major, 4.0 for minor per ISO 2859-1.
  7. Third-party options: SGS, BV, TÜV Rheinland, Intertek — buyer-nominated or factory-arranged. Typical cost $350–$600 per inspection.

FAQs

1. What is the MOQ for climbing carabiners?
Standard SKUs start at 500 pcs per model. OEM orders with laser logo typically require 2,000 pcs. We accept trial orders below MOQ at a per-unit surcharge — please indicate in your RFQ.

2. Do you offer free samples?
We provide 1–3 free stock samples; buyer covers express freight (approx. USD 40 via DHL). Custom samples with your logo/color are quoted at tooling cost, deductible from the first bulk order.

3. What is the lead time for a bulk order of 20,000 pcs?
Typically 35–45 days after receipt of deposit and artwork approval. Peak season (March–May) may extend by 7–10 days. Air-freight partial shipments possible for urgent projects.

4. What are your payment terms?
30% T/T deposit, 70% balance against copy of B/L. L/C at sight accepted for orders above USD 50,000. Alibaba Trade Assurance also supported.

5. Can you produce to my own design (OEM/ODM)?
Yes. Provide a 2D drawing (PDF/DWG) or 3D file (STEP/IGES). Our engineers will review manufacturability within 48 hours and quote tooling, sample, and unit price.

6. Which certifications do you provide with each shipment?
Every batch ships with CE EN 12275 declaration of conformityUIAA 121 certificateEN 10204 3.1 material certificate, and internal QC test report. EN 362 and ANSI Z359.12 are available on quoted models.

7. How do you handle shipping and after-sales?
We ship FOB, CIF, or DDP per your preference and can consolidate with other suppliers at our warehouse. Any batch found non-conforming to spec is replaced or refunded — we maintain a <0.05% field-return rate across 2023–2024 shipments.

8. What’s the difference between a screwgate and a triple-action locking carabiner for industrial use?
screwgate requires manual sleeve rotation to lock — cheap and reliable but vulnerable to user error and vibration loosening. A triple-action (twist-pull-open) is auto-locking and requires three deliberate motions to open, meeting the stricter self-locking requirement of EN 362:2004 §4.3 for PPE connectors. For any industrial fall-arrest application, specify triple-action.
